Worthing Light Festival is run by the East Beach Artist Collective based at East Beach Studios. They are a vibrant hub of over 25 artists, with years of experience, who share resources, materials, skills and equipment. They reach out to all sectors of the community in a myriad of ways. As a not-for-profit arts organisation they work collectively to promote their abilities as artists and craftspeople, organise events to contribute to the community and to enhance the cultural life of Worthing.
Local community arts organisation Creative Waves will create an interactive light art ‘space’ and run workshops at local schools prior to the event. Ben Gates will bring his orchestral objects made from recycled everything to the beach for kids to play on and create music. Poi Passion will deliver spectacular LED light dance performances emerging from the sea. There will also be music including classical, tango, steel band and ambient folktronica throughout the weekend.
All art installations only use renewable energy or a 12V battery. Anyone can visit day or night. There are two categories; over and under 16 years of age. Installations will be judged by a panel led by artist Ali Lapper MBE. Winners of both categories will receive £200 and the runners-up £50 each.
